Donald Trump rallied 20,000 MAGA enthusiasts at Washington's Capital One Arena just hours before his second term inauguration and made a bold proclamation: "At noon, the curtain closes on four long years of American decline, and we begin a brand new day of American strength and prosperity, dignity and pride. Bringing it all back once and for all. We are going to end the reign of a failed and corrupt political establishment in Washington, a failed administration. We achieved the most epic political victory our country has ever seen."

During his speech, Trump directed his criticism towards former President Joe Biden accusing him of trying to claim the credit for the hostage deal between Israel and Hamas. He chided, "I know that Biden is saying that they made the deal," prompting a wave of loud boos from the attendees.
He proudly announced progress in the Middle East peace efforts, saying: "This week we achieved an epic ceasefire agreement as a first step toward lasting peace in the Middle East. And this agreement could only have happened as a result of our historic victory in November," Trump also informed the crowd, "I'm glad to report that the first hostages have just been released."
Trump then detailed his intentions to fortify the southern border, boost investment within the States, and reverse the current US prohibition on TikTok. He suggested a "joint venture" with the Chinese-owned app, proposing that the US Government should receive a 50% share of the profits in exchange for permitting its operation.
As Trump assumes command in the Oval Office, significant alterations are anticipated, with a flurry of tumultuous executive orders expected to be enacted. The incoming president has pledged to "make heads spin" with his bold and often contentious agenda, which includes a crackdown on what he calls the "deep state".
The first day in office is expected to witness a wave of firings throughout federal agencies, focusing on those thought to have subverted his prior administration.
Globally, Trump's trade policies are causing concern, especially within the EU. His plans to combat inflation and safeguard domestic manufacturing by imposing tariffs of up to 20% on all imported goods are designed to motivate Americans to purchase domestically produced items.
Nevertheless, this approach risks triggering reciprocal tariffs on American exports and could potentially damage US consumers.
Regarding environmental policy, Trump's position on climate change is unequivocal: he prioritises American oil and gas production, accelerates fracking projects, and puts an end to Biden-era renewable energy initiatives, such as wind farm development. There's also speculation about potential pardons for individuals implicated in the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021, following the defeat in the 2020 election.
