Train tracks through Cornwall have been closed this morning while police are at the scene of an emergency incident. The incident is unfolding near St Austell station and Great Western Railway has said train services between Penzance and Plymouth may be delayed or cancelled this morning.

Disruption is expected until around 10.45am today (Tuesday, January 28). National Rail said: "The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Penzance and Par, whilst they do their work all lines are closed. Trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised."

GWR added: "We have had reports of a Police incident at St. Austell station which has resulted in GWR services being suspended in the area for the time being. Details are limited at the moment, but we will provide updates when more information becomes available, as well as alternative options for customers once in place."

Person dies on train tracks in Cornwall

A person has died on a railway line in Cornwall, police have confirmed.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police has said: "Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks just after 8.20am this morning (28 January) near St Austell Railway Station.

"Officers and paramedics attended and sadly a person was pronounced deceased. The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
