The A30 has reopened in Cornwall after a Go Cornwall double-decker bus crashed this afternoon. The road was blocked westbound near Bodmin services following the collision at around 4.30pm today (Friday, January 31).

Police, paramedics and firefighters were all at the scene. A diversion route was in place.

Google Maps shows long delays building in the area. Traffic monitor Inrix reports: "A30 Westbound blocked, delays due to accident, two vehicles involved from B3257 (Bodmin Moor Services, Altarnun) to Trewint turn off (Five Lanes)."

National Highways added: "The A30 in Cornwall is closed westbound between the A395 (near Launceston) and the A389 at Bodmin due to a serious collision."

According to Inrix the road reopened by around 9.40pm.

Police are at the scene

A Devon and Cornwall Police said:

Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on the westbound carriageway of A30, near Plusha Lewannick, Launceston, at around 4.15pm today, Friday 31 January.

The extent of any injuries is not known at this time. The westbound carriageway has been closed while emergency services deal with the scene. The incident is ongoing.

Van and bus crash

An eyewitness told CornwallLive: "Van overturned looked like it hit the side of the double decker bus, hope everyone is OK. Fire and police had just arrived, no ambulances when we passed. Approximately 4.20 when we passed."

Fire crews at the scene

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene of a crash on the A30.

The service said in a statement: "Pumping appliances from Launceston, Liskeard, and the rescue tender from Bodmin responded to this incident.

"On arrival a two vehicle road traffic collision was discovered. Firefighters assisted to make the vehicles and scene safe."

Diversion routes

National Highways has put a diversion in place after a serious crash on the A30 in Cornwall.

Westbound diverted traffic is advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol:

  • Exit the A30 westbound at the A395 junction (Kennard's House)
  • Return on the A30 eastbound towards Launceston
  • Exit at the A388 junction at Launceston and take the A388 southbound
  • Continue on the A388 southbound towards Saltash
  • At the Carkeel Roundabout, turn right and join the A38 westbound
  • Continue on the A38 westbound past Liskeard towards Bodmin
  • Re-join the A34 westbound at Bodmin just after Turfdown Roundabout
