A burger restaurant which proved to be a big hit just days after it launched has opened a new venue six months later. Native Burger opened a new restaurant at The Piazza in Bodmin last month following the success of its first venue which opened on Westgate Street in Launceston in August.
The family-run business is the brainchild of local butcher brand Philip Warren Butchers (PWB) and Luke Taylor, PWB head of operations and Hubbox’s former head of food. The menu consists of delicious burgers, chicken and loaded fries - from the more fiery 'Twisted Fire Starter',' brimming with pepper jack cheese, jalapeño, onion and sriracha mayo to add a kick, to 'The Workout,' a barbeque-y beef patty with brisket, bacon crumb and more.
Luke has spent his career so far working in kitchens to hone his craft and build relationships since being plucked fresh from college at 18. Since then, he has worked as executive chef for Rick Stein and head of food at Cornish burger brand Hubbox.
In a post shared on Instagram, Luke wrote: "We’re @native.burger.bodmin, a small family run burger joint with a big passion for delivering good quality locally sourced food for all to enjoy and we’ve got the experience to back it up! So the chief, top dog, man in charge (guess who wrote this post!) is Luke. The idea of running a restaurant has been nothing short of a pipedream for him, until 2024 that is!
"Some of you might have already popped up to see us in our small corner of deliciousness in Launceston @native.burger that we opened earlier this year and we’ve have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback and so it led us to this new venture right here in the heart of Bodmin.
"So in a nutshell, at Native burger we’ll be presenting you with a menu full to the brim with crafted burgers that have been designed to really show off that the best of local produce from our friends @philipwarrenbutchers @bakertomsbread and so many more, we have curated some tasty sides, loaded topped fries that cannot be replicated (even though some people have tried!) Wash that down with our own crafted beer or even a cocktail."
Native Burger exclusively showcases Philip Warren meats in a concise menu featuring what seems like burger shop classics like cheeseburgers, fried chicken and loaded fries but with provenance of product paramount to the offering. Beef from the butchers, just a mile down the road, is unrivalled in quality and flavour, expertly dry aged and taken from sirloin and rump.
Working exclusively with farmers in the South West and handling only grass-fed indigenous breeds, PWB meat is favoured by some of the UK’s finest chefs and restaurants, including highly accoladed ones like The Ledbury, Ikoyi and Paul Ainsworth at No6.

So far, the new restaurant in Bodmin has proven to be a success, having already received a number of five star reviews on Google. Eve Lambert wrote: "This place is amazing!! Great food where you can taste the quality!! So reasonably priced, been twice, chicken tenders mwoah!!!! I cannot wait to take the kids after Christmas for milkshakes! Staff are super friendly and service could not be better. If you are looking for a reasonably priced (much better than the local pub) place to eat this is it. A business that really wants to feed people good food at an affordable price. Well done."
Amy Long also gave five stars and said: "We have visited twice now. Once with my kids in the daytime and second with friends one evening. On both occasions the food was lovely, fresh & delicious. The service was fab! I was also really surprised on both visits when the bill came because it was very good value for money. Will definitely be swinging by again sometime soon! Not only great food but great beer too! A brilliant new addition to Bodmin Town!"
Riley Barrett added: "Best burger we’ve had in Bodmin. Also the loaded fries and chicken burger smacked. Would have taken pictures but scarfed the food. Could not be more excited about a local restaurant. Staff was brill!"
