It's been a long slog of a month but January is finally over and this weekend we get to say hello to February. Marking the first weekend of the month, there are some things happening to be getting your teeth stuck into across Cornwall and here are just a few suggestions of things to do.

From the return of a Cornish-born band to a brand new, electrifying drag show at Hall for Cornwall, and some guided tours of two iconic bridges.

Queenz: Drag Me to the Disco!

Where: Hall for Cornwall, Truro

When: Saturday, February 1

The Velvet Hands

Where: Old Bakery Studios

When: Saturday, February 1

Cornwall-born but now London-based garage punk rock band, The Velvet Hands, are coming home for a performance in Truro this weekend. The band is said to be redefining UK garage rock for a new generation. 2023 saw the release of their LP Sucker Punch, and a string of UK tours for the band from Falmouth. Tickets are £10.

Cornish Speed Dating (over 40s)

Where: The Lugger Inn, Penzance

When: Saturday, February 1

Take a break from dating apps and swiping with the next Cornish Speed Dating event. For over 40s only, enjoy a night of real face-to-face interactions at Cornish Speed Dating, having fun mini dates and chances to match using our simple scorecard system.

The event information says get ready to "create opportunities" and "make meaningful connections".

Bridging the Tamar Guided Introductory Talk

Where: Tamar Bridge Offices

When: Saturday, February 1

Join friendly volunteers for a free guided introductory talk about two wonderful bridges. Talks are held in the amphitheatre in the grounds of the Bridging the Tamar Centre, a viewpoint that offers stunning views of the Tamar Bridge, Royal Albert Bridge and the river. It will include facts about these incredible structures. The talk will take around 30 minutes.

You may like to look in the Visitor Centre afterwards (free to enter), or walk across the Tamar Bridge for a closer look at the bridges yourselves.
