Cornwall tidal pool for wild swimming named among the prettiest in the world

The world's prettiest ocean pools have been revealed, with two British locations making the list, including one that's located right here in Cornwall.

While the UK is certainly not known for its tidal pools, there are some stunning ones along the country's coast - two of which are considered among the prettiest in the world, including one right here in Cornwall.

Ocean pools are a great choice for anyone wanting to dip their toe into wild swimming with all the benefits of a coastal location but without the worries of being tugged out to sea or having to deal with waves.

With this in mind, Conde Nast Traveller revealed the 14 prettiest ocean pools around the world, and perhaps unsurprisingly, Australia topped the list, with Bondi Beach's Bondi Icebergs Club taking the top spot and six other beaches appearing on the list.

Something a bit more surprising is that two UK locations made it onto the list, the first of which was Cornwall's Bude Sea Pool, coming in at six, which was then followed by Kent's Walpole Bay Tidal Pool at number 13.

Bude Sea Pool is a stunning part natural, part man-made tidal pool located Summerleaze Beach, that has provided a safe swimming location on the Atlantic coast for 80 years now.

The tidal pool is open year-round and is maintained by the charity Friends of Bude Sea Pool (FoBSP), who are run purely on donations and purchases from their gift shop.

Visitors to the ocean pool have left rave reviews on TripAdvisor, with one writing: "Bude sea pool is my favourite place in the world. I have visited it many times, in all months and seasons. It is never the same, but always magical and I am so happy that it continues to be free for everyone to enjoy. Wonderful place."

"Absolutely fantastic pool - like a natural Infinity pool at the seas edge. I took the kids aged 7 and 12 - both had an amazing time (me too). The volunteers were all really friendly and helpful. A great facility," added another.

And a third fan of the sea pool added: "We used the sea pool for a post celebratory swim with friends and family after our civil partnership ceremony.

"It is in a stunning location, and the water is calm and easy to access. I would recommend it for those who want to have the advantage of sea buoyancy without the waves."
