A home in Cornwall caught fire after being struck by lightning this morning (Monday, January 27). Fire crews were called to the scene in White Cross, located between Indian Queens and Newquay, at around 6.30am.

Firefighters used a carbon dioxide extinguisher and breathing apparatus to put out the blaze. It comes after Storm Éowyn swept through the county and wider region last week with a "mini tornado" damaging roofs of homes.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Critical Control received a call stating a house had been struck by lightening. Crews from St Columb & St Dennis attended and used CO2 Extinguisher and Breathing Apparatus to extinguish a small fire."

The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning for Cornwall which is in place until 6am tomorrow (Tuesday, January 28). Forecasters are expecting travel disruption and power cuts.
