A stretch of the A38 was closed in Cornwall following a serious crash this afternoon, Wednesday, January 22. The A38 was closed between the A390 turnoff and Menheniot, and emergency services were at the scene.

A male cyclist has suffered serious, potentially life-changing injuries. He was taken to hospital.

Drivers were told to expect delays following the serious crash. National Highways has said: "The #A38 eastbound is closed between the #A390 (#Liskeard) and #A374 (#Trerulefoot) due to a serious collision.

"Emergency services are on scene. Please allow extra journey time if in the area this afternoon."

Roads and traffic monitoring site, Inrix, also reported the crash at 12.29pm. It said: "A38 Eastbound closed, delays due to accident, a motorcycle involved from A390 (Island Shop Junction) to Menheniot turn off."

Devon and Cornwall Police has said: "Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and bicycle on eastbound carriageway of the A38 near Liskeard at around 12pm today, Wednesday 22 January.

"Emergency services attended the scene.

"A male cyclist sustained serious, potentially life changing injuries and was taken to hospital.

"Local road closures were put in place, but the road was fully reopened at around 2.30pm."

Cyclist involved in A38 crash

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police has said:

Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and bicycle on eastbound carriageway of the A38 near Liskeard at around 12pm today, Wednesday 22 January.

Officers are at the scene.

One person has been reported as injured, but the extent of any injuries is not known at this time.

The eastbound carriageway has been closed and is likely to remain so for some time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

The incident is ongoing.
